EPA needs the information that will be
collected under this rule inorder to protect public health as
required by the Safe Drinking Water Act. Under this rule, public
(drinking) water systems will monitor their water sources for
Cryptosporidium, as well as E. coli and turbidity as indicators
Cryptosporidium. EPA and States will use the results of this
monitoring to require additional water treatment by systems with
the highest vulunerability to Cryptosporidium contamination. This
treatment will significantly reduce rataes of illness due to
Cryptosporidium in drinking water The responsdents will be public
