Terms of Clearance: In accordance with 5 CFR Part 1320, this collection is improperly submitted because the agency has not demonstrated that it is using an effective and efficient statistical survey methodology appropriate to the purpose for which this information is to be collected. Upon submission of this collection for OMB review, the agency should provide additional detail regarding: 1.A more specific description of adjustments made to the sample to ensure an appropriate rural/urban and state split. 2.The basis for stating that a 75% response rate would be achieved, including a description of the previous surveys this estimate is based on. 3.Additional information about the plans to pretest the survey and changes that may be made as a result of those pretests. 4.The script used to guide previous focus groups and how those focus groups were selected. 5.Reason for including race/ethnicity questions. 6.Basis for the hourly burden estimate. 7.Additional detail about the models that would be used to analyze the data from this survey. 8.The population for which survey results would be generalizable to.

Abstract: The information provided by this study will allow USDA Forest Service land managers to better understand the public's knowledge, beliefs, attitudes and preferences regarding fire and fuels management issues in Region 3 of the USDA Forest Service. This information will assist Forest Service land managers in their efforts to more effectively interact with the public concerning fuel reduction and vegetation management, as well as managing the risks associated with wildland fire.
