Census 2000 taught us important lessons emphasizing the need to begin planning and development early in the decade. The 2006 Decennial Short Form Experiment evaluates several features of the questionnaire designed to improve coverage accuracy and incre ase response rates: the wording of the instruction aout who to list as Person 1; the efficacy of a set of final questions asking respondents to check the completeness of their forms and providing a clear ending point in the form; and a compressed schedule of mailings combined with a deadline for returning the completed form.
