Spring Viremia of carp disease (SVC) is a foreign animal disease and is recognized as a notifiable disease by the World Organization for Animal Health. SVC is caused by a rhabdovirus and is highly contagious under certain temperature and age- related conditions. Infection causes variable mortability principally in species of carp, but may cause lower mortality with a higher percentage of clinically in apparent carriers that can shed the virus.
