NIST requires this information from laboratories and quality system registrar accreditation bodies that self-declare to NIST that they meet the ISO/IEC requirements. These organizations will in turn accredit laboratories and quality system registrars for fastener testing and manufacture. In addition, petitions to consider a document as an alternative to one of the ISO/IEC guides may be accepted by the Director of NIST provided the document provides equal or greater rigor.
