The Census Bureau plans to conduct a new survey to measure research and development expenditures by state governments in the United States. This survey will be a joint effort between the Census Bureau and the National Science Foundation (NSF). Items on the survey form will include expenditures by performer, sources of funding, and type of research and development (e.g., basic research). Final results produced by NSF will contain state and national estimates useful to a variety of public and private data users interested in research and development performance.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that the collection of information encompassed by this request complies with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR 1320.8(b)(3).
