This program provides government
finance data for state and local governments. This survey is
conducted annually, as a national census every 5 years, and as a
sample survey in each of the 4 interening years. The Census Bureau
provides these data to the Federal Reserve Board for constructing
the Nation's Flow of Funds Accounts, and the Bureau of Economic
Analysis for their National Income and Product Accounts. The data
is also used to monitor the government sector of the economy, and
to formulate, develop, and review public policy. Federal agencies,

The burden increase is due to
an increase in the number of respondents to this collection during
FY 2007. The forms in this collection are used to collect
information every year from state and local governments. Every
fifth year, as part of the five-year census of governments, the
forms are sent to the universe of state and local governments. In
other years, the forms are sent to only a sample of governments.
The usage of the information collection forms for this
census-related purpose is fully explained and documented in our
June 2005 formal information collection request.
