The 2007 Economic Census of Island
Areas, conducted under the authority of Title 13, United States
Code (USC), is the primary source of dependable facts about the
structure and functioning of the economies of the Island Areas. The
census provides the only source of data at a geographic level
equivalent to U.S. counties. Economic census statistics provide
benchmarks for indexes of industrial production, business
activities and sales. Census data provide a framework for
estimating the gross product of these areas and provide essential
information for government, business, and the general
public.
