OMB approves
this emergency collection (associated with the 9/11 interim final
regulations) for six months only. The burden estimate for this
collection represents what ED believes to be the total number of
individuals who may qualify for the September 11, 2001 Survivors
loan discharge (1,000 respondents), rather than the annual number
of respondents who are expected to apply. This submission requests
the full number of respondents because ED expects that most
eligible individuals will apply during the first year. ED will
report the appropriate adjustments to the burden in future
submissions for OMB approval.
