Position Summary
The Health Education Specialist provides expertise in planning
and implementing provider and consumer health education and

of maternal and child health and related topics.

- Manages the production of the LHVPN Newsletter including
assuming primary responsibility to write some articles for,
collate the materials for, and prepare/layout the agency
Newsletter.
- Collaborates with the Executive Director and Medical
Director to supply content for the agency website.
- Provides leadership for the LHVPN Education Committee.
Skills and Qualifications
Significant health education experience required. Certified
in Health Education Specialist (CHES) preferred. Must be fluent
in English and Spanish (oral and written).

Community Health Program

Position/Salary: Associate Professor in
Health Education. Full-time tenure-track, beginning September
16, 2007. Competitive salary.
Qualifications: An earned Doctorate
in Health Education, Community Health, Public Health, or closely
related field; demonstrated evidence of effective university
teaching and advising; a record of scholarly activity and
peer-reviewed publications; evidence of professional involvement/service.
Desirable Qualifications:. CHES certification;
program approval/accreditation experience; commitment to campus-community
partnerships.
Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate
courses in research design and evaluation related to health
education, epidemiology and biostatistics, and administration
of health programs. Other teaching responsibilities may include
health promotion and disease prevention, contemporary health
issues, program planning, or other courses to meet the changing
competencies of health educators and the requirements of program
accreditation. Advising; scholarly activity; and program,
department, university and community service are required.
Department: The PEHR Department,
located within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences,
has a full-time faculty of 13, and offers five degree programs
including a B.S. in Community Health, B.A. in Education in
Physical Education and Health, B.S. in Exercise and Sport
Science, B.A. in Recreation, and a M.S. degree in Human Movement
and Performance. The Department is one of the oldest and largest
programs at Western Washington University. The Health Education
faculty teach required courses for the Community Health major,
Physical Education major, and Woodring College of Education.
Community Health Program: The Community
Health program is one of the most highly regarded in the Northwest
and offers a B.S. in Community Health. The major is a competency-based
curriculum with a combination of content courses and theory/process/experiential
courses which are based on the skills needed to meet the requirements
of entry-level health educators. It prepares graduates to
become Certified Health Education Specialists through NCHEC,
Inc.
University: Western Washington
University is a public four-year institution with competitive
admissions and is nationally recognized for its educational
programs, students, and faculty. Enrollment is approximately
12,500 students. The University has a strong tradition of
faculty involvement in governance and in participation in
professional and community organizations.
Location: The University is located
in beautiful Bellingham, Washington, a city of approximately
72,000, nestled between Bellingham Bay and Mt. Baker. Seattle
and Vancouver, B.C. are close by. The University offers easy
