Over the last few years many locations in the United States have experienced catastrophic wildfires, particularly in the western US. In the aftermath of the devastating fires between 2000 and 2004, it has become especially important to understand how homeowners respond to the risk posed by wildfires. In order to improve our understanding of the issues affecting homeowners regarding wildfire, we are interested in your opinions on wildfire management and public policies to address these risks.

Enclosed is a survey that has been developed with considerable participation from homeowners in the western United States. The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. The information obtained from this survey will provide decision makers with better information and allow public land managers and homeowners to more clearly understand the views and opinions of homeowners living in areas that have experienced wildfire threats.

The survey is anonymous, and protecting the confidentiality of respondent’s answers is very important to us. Again, the survey takes only about 20 minutes to complete. We have enclosed a self-addressed, stamped envelope for your convenience.
