Abstract: This project is designed to enhance the two-way flow of information regarding wildfire and risk reduction preferences between the USDA Forest Service and homeowners located in the wildland-urban interface. The project was proposed in response to the human dimension research component of the National Fire Plan passed by Congress in 2002. To understand homeowner behavior and responses to various sources of risk, it is critical to ask the communities what they are doing and why they are doing it. A survey of the homeowner population is the most effective and statistically valid approach to expanding our understanding of these issues. A non-response survey, with a burden of less than 60 seconds per response, will be used in an attempt to determine the non-response bias associated with this survey. There is no significant burden associated with this portion of the information collection and therefore has not be included in calculation of the burden associated with this information collection request.
