This project is designed to enhance
the two-way flow of information regarding wildfire and risk
reduction preferences between the USDA Forest Service and
homeowners located in the wildland-urban interface. The project was
proposed in response to the human dimension research component of
the National Fire Plan passed by Congress in 2002. To understand
homeowner behavior and responses to various sources of risk, it is
critical to ask the communities what they are doing and why they
are doing it. A survey of the homeowner population is the most
effective and statistically valid approach to expanding our
understanding of these issues.
