Within 18 months
of this clearance date, DOL will report to OMB with the feasibility
of not pre-printing or collecting the miners social security
number on the CM-972 when the CM-972 is used for survivors claims
that have no associated miners claim. DOL should consider whether
an alternate method may be used instead as a way to mitigate the
privacy risks of sending social security numbers through the
mail.

The purpose of the CM-972 is to
collect pertinent data to determine if the representative's
services and the amounts charged can be paid under the Black Lung
Benefits Act.

There has been a slight
increase in the number of attorney fee awards, the approximate
number of CM-972's submitted by representatives may increase
leading to an increase in the burden hours. There has been an
adjustment of +30 in responses and an adjustment of +21 burden
hours increase due to rounded from 199.50 to 200 by ROCIS.
