MSHA issues certifications,
qualifications and approvals (licenses)to the nation's miners to
conduct specific mine-related work. In an effort to reduce the use
of Social Security Numbers as identifiers, MSHA will issue
Individual Identification Numbers, or MIIN, where identification is
required by MSHA for miners.
Each miner will only have to
register once. The first year hour burden is estimated to be 3,332,
the second year 2,083 and each year thereafter the estimate is 833
burden hours. The first year costs are estimated at $11,439 second
year at $7,667, and each year thereafter at $3,075. During the next
3 years, the number of requests should start at approximately
40,000, and drop to approximately 10,000 by the third year.
