The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) seeks generic clearance under the Paperwork Reduction Act for the agency's collection requests that will evaluate IMLS programs, identify trends in IMLS grants, and measure customer satisfaction. Clearance to collection evaluative and customer satisfaction data from applicants, grantees and participants in IMLS programs is essential to IMLS' ability to improve services, measure progress in achieving the goals articulated in the agency's strategic plan, understand trends in museum and library service, and in general to be fully responsive to federal accountability requirements.
Under this generic clearance, IMLS will undertake more systematic information collections to evaluate its grant programs and other initiatives, and to measure customer satisfaction with its programs and services. In previous years, IMLS submitted OMB clearance requests for individual evaluation collections, but this generic clearance request systematizes the information collection clearances.
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that the collection of information encompassed by this request complies with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR 1320.8(b)(3).
The following is a summary of the topics, regarding the proposed collection of information, that the certification covers:
(i) Why the information is being collected;
(ii) Use of information;
(iii) Burden estimate;
(iv) Nature of response (voluntary, required for a benefit, or mandatory);
(v) Nature and extent of confidentiality; and
(vi) Need to display currently valid OMB control number;
If you are unable to certify compliance with any of these provisions, identify the item by leaving the box unchecked and explain the reason in the Supporting Statement.
