The Forest Service Research and
Development group plans to create a data archive to store and
disseminate data collected in the course of Forest Service
scientific research projects. Currently, Forest Service research
data sets (collected by the Research and Development Group) are
shared with other researchers at the discretion of the collecting
researcher or in response to a Freedom of Information Act request.
The information provided by this collection will assist the Forest
Service Research and Development personnel in evaluating the
research program. By creating a data archive, the Forest Service is
attempting to broaden and simplify access to data sets while
satisfying information requirements associated with scientist
performance evaluations. This tracking system will assist the
Forest Service in meeting these goals.
