The Identity Theft Supplement (ITS) is
a supplement to the National Crime Victimization Survey. The ITS is
primarily an effort to assemble critical information about the
prevalence of identity theft and its overall economic cost to
victims. The ITS was also specifically designed to collect
important characteristics of identity theft such as, the impact of
victims, consequences of identity theft on victims, victims'
interaction with law enforcement, and victim awareness of
preventive measures to avoid or minimize their risk of becoming an
identity theft victim. The 2008 Identity Theft Supplement (ITS)
will be conducted from January through June 2008 using
computer-assisted personal interviewing technology.
