The project director for the NIH Cognitive Testing Laboratory will closely coordinate with the directors of the other cognitive labs across the federal government (including BLS, NCHS, and Census)to ensure consistency in methods, recruitment approaches, and compensation. If the OIRA desk officer is given a 'heads up' regarding the content and timing of a submittal for a generic IC, she/he will try to approve each request in less than 21 calendar days.

A generic clearance is requested from OMB for general questionnaire development and pretesting activities to be carried out in 2008-2010 by the staff of the Applied Research Program, in the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences. Four types of activities will be carried out: survey questionnaire development and pretesting based on cognitive interviewing methodology, research on the cognitive aspects of survey methodology, research on computer-user interface design for computer-assisted instruments (including Web-based surveys), also known as Usability Testing, and Pilot Household interviews.
