This ICR summarizes the burden imposed upon the States and Indian Tribes for assessing hazardous waste sites under EPA's Superfund program. Information collected under this ICR supports EPA's revised Hazard Ranking System (HRS) model used to evaluate the relative threats to human health and the environment posed by actual or potential releases of hazardous substances, pollutants, and contaminants. EPA uses a multi-phase evaluation process guided by criteria outlined in the HRS to determine which sites brought to the attention of the Superfund Program may warrant cleanup work and to help determine whether a site is eligible.
