Justification for the form revisions

The revisions to the Form I-765 and its instructions are necessary in order to accommodate the new rule authorizing the 17-month extension of post-completion optional practical training for STEM students. These changes are required to incorporate the new eligibility requirements in the instructions to the application form, as well as the form itself, to ensure proper adjudication of the OPT application, based on the specific type of OPT sought.
