The information collected under FERC-550 is used by FERC to implement statutory provisions of Part, section 1, 6, and 15 of the Interstate Commerce Act (ICA) (Pub.L. 337, 34 Stat. 384). The filing requirements provide the basis for analysis of all rates, fares, from charges whatsoever demanded, charged or collected by any common carrier or carriers in connection with the transportation of crude oil and petroleum products and are used by FERC to establish a basis for determining the just and reasonable rates that should be charged by the regulated pipeline company.

The estimate for the burden is based on recent Commission experience and the actual number of filings made under FERC-550 over the past 12 months. The burden of these collections has decreased slightly due to the actual number of filings received (572) were less than previously estimated (600). The cost per staff employee has increased resulting in a higher total annualized cost than previously reported.
