FCC Form 301 is used to apply for
authority to construct a new commercial AM, FM, TV, or TV broadcast
station or to make changes to the existing facilities. The FCC uses
the data to determine whether an applicant meets basic statutory
requirements to become a licensee. On December 22, 2007, the
Commission adopted a Report and Order, MB Docket No. 07-91, FCC
07-228, to establish the rules, policies and procedures necessary
to complete the nation's transition to DTV. Full-power commercial
television stations without construction permits for their final,
post transition (DTV) facility must file an application to
construct or modify that facility using FCC Form 301. Also, these
stations may request authority to transition early to their
post-transition channel using FCC Form 301.
