Abstract: VA cannot disclose any information regarding a person's benefits to anyone other than the claimant and anyone he or she specifies as an authorized third party. With regard to a person's education benefit, many times spouses or parents call on the claimant's behalf regarding dates of payment, status of claim or rates of payment. Without the claimant's written consent we cannot divulge any information on the claimant's behalf. Because so many of our claimants are on active duty and overseas, it's very difficult for them to inquire about their benefit. This form will give Veterans Claims Examiners (VCEs) the permission to disclose benefit information to specified third parties.
