A ircraf t — The t erm " airc raf t " includes light er-t han-air
airc raf t as w ell as heav ier-t han-air airc raf t how ev er
propelled, but does not include spacecraf t . It includes
all pow ered and nonpow ered aircraf t , such as balloons
(ex cept t oy ), gliders, dirigibles, helicopt ers, ult ra light s,
hang gliders, et c.

2 . Figures to be reported

M ilit ary — The t erm " m ilit ary " ref ers t o new aircraf t
and aircraf t engines built f or m ilit ary applicat ions,
w het her f or t act ical, st rat egic, or support f unct ions. A ll
aircraf t and aircraf t engines built f or nonm ilit ary
applicat ions are considered as nonm ilit ary , or civ il, and
are t o be report ed on t his surv ey .

Com panies w it h m ore t han one est ablishm ent
m anuf act uring t he product s cov ered by t his part of t he
surv ey are request ed t o com plet e a separat e report f orm
f or each loc at ion. If y ou hav e not receiv ed a separat e
f orm f or eac h est ablishm ent , please c all t he c ont act
show n on t he report f orm or w rit e t o t he U.S. Census
Bureau f or addit ional f orm s.

Quantity and value of shipments
The f igures on quant it y and v alue of shipm ent s should
include t he phy sic al shipm ent s of all product s sold,
t ransf erred t o ot her est ablishm ent s w it hin y our
com pany , or shipped on consignm ent , w het her f or
dom est ic or ex port sale. The v alue represent s t he net
sales pric e, f .o. b. plant , t o t he cust om er, or branch t o
w hich t he produc t s are shipped, net of discount s,
allow ances, f reight charges, and ret urns. Shipm ent s t o
y our ow n branches should be assigned t he sam e v alue
as com parable sales t o unaf f iliat ed cust om ers, i.e., t he
v alue includes an appropriat e allocat ion of com pany
ov erhead and prof it . Produc t s bought and resold
w it hout f urt her m anuf act ure should not be inc luded in
shipm ent s. V alue f igures should represent t he v alue of
t he com plet e airc raf t or airc raf t engine as shipped,
inc luding all acc essories, at t achm ent s, and part s ordered
and shipped w it h t he it em . (Ex c lude part s sold
separat ely .) W hen m at erial or part s of f oreign origin are
im port ed int o t he Unit ed St at es and inc orporat ed w it h
m at erials or part s produced in t he Unit ed St at es, t he
com plet e produc t is c onsidered a dom est ic product .
Leased aircraf t — For airc raf t leased or rent ed by y our
com pany , report t he num ber and est im at ed v alues. The
est im at e should approx im at e t he v alue of t he airc raf t
sold out right . If no such pric es ex ist , t he v alue m ay be
based on t he v aluat ion plac ed on t hese it em s f or t ax ,
insurance, or sim ilar purposes.

Civ il — The t erm " civ il" ref ers t o new aircraf t and
airc raf t engines not built f or m ilit ary applicat ions. (See
def init ion f or m ilit ary abov e.) Report on t his part all civ il
(including general
av iat ion, com m erc ial-t y pe and helicopt ers) airc raf t
regardless of end use. Report aircraf t sold in kit s in
It em Code 1 5 1 0 .
Fix ed-w ing aircraf t — A ircraf t hav ing w ings f ix ed t o t he
airplane f uselage and out spread in f light , i. e. ,
nonrot at ing w ings.
Helicopt er — A rot orc raf t t hat depends principally on it s
engine driv en rot ors f or it s horizont al m ot ion.
A heav ier-t han-air airc raf t t hat depends principally f or it s
support in f light on t he lif t generat ed by one or m ore
rot ors.
