Change justification for 0648-0214 logbook package

JUSTIFICATION OF CHANGE FOR PACIFIC REMOTE ISLAND AREA (PRIA)
BOTTOMFISH LOGBOOK FORM AND INSTRUCTIONS

The Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center has submitted changes to the Western Pacific Daily
Bottomfish Fishing logbook and instructions, including changing the title to “PRIA Daily
Bottomfish Fishing Log”. Limited changes have been made so that the questions are easier to
understand (simpler words are used), and therefore easier for the fishermen to answer. In
addition: 1) the title is more specific, 2) we have ensured that instructions are consistent with the
logbook, and 3) the listed species are relevant for the local area, and have common local names
when applicable.
Specific minor changes include: addition of month/day/year format for departure and return
dates, addition of “of departure” and “of landing” to “port” for each event, “Num.” instead of
“No.”, more choices of “circle one’ rather than checking the blank beside an answer, addition of
“24 hour clock” after the “Begin time” blank.
No new data are being required as a result of these minor changes, and the time to complete the
forms would likely decrease due to the improved forms and clarity of instructions.
