Abstract: The NSDUH (formerly the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse) is a survey of the civilian, noninstitutionalized population of the United States, age 12 and over. The data are used to estimate the prevalence of cigarette, alcohol and illicit drug use, and abuse of licit drugs. Results are used by SAMHSA, ONDCP, and other Federal agencies and other researchers and organizations to establish policy, direct program activities, and better allocate resources.

Short Statement: Currently there are 85,323 hours in the 2008 OMB inventory. The 2009 NSDUH is requesting 84,906 hours, which is a program change decrease of 417 hours from the 2008 NSDUH. The decrease in hours is a result of the decreased sample size of the MHSS.
