Temperate hardwood logs and lumber (with or without bark), softwood lumber, and untreated railroad ties are not authorized from areas in Asia that are east of 60° East Longitude and north of the Tropic of Cancer.

Raw softwood lumber, without bark, must be consigned to an approved facility operating under a valid compliance agreement with Plant Protection and Quarantine at the time the lumber is imported. The name of the approved facility must be submitted and approved before importation occurs. Lumber must be heat treated within 30 days from the time the lumber is released from the port of first arrival.

Pinus radiata and Pseudotsuga menziesii softwood logs and/or lumber from New Zealand, without bark, must be consigned to an approved facility operating under a valid compliance agreement with Plant Protection and Quarantine at the time the lumber or logs are imported. The name of the approved facility must be submitted and re-approved before importation occurs.

Pinus radiata logs and/or lumber from Chile, without bark, must be consigned to an approved facility operating under a valid compliance agreement with Plant Protection and Quarantine at the time the lumber or logs are imported. The name of the approved facility must be submitted and re-approved before importation occurs.

All other softwood logs must be heat treated at a PPQ approved facility prior to arrival. Currently there are no approved heat treatment facilities.

Wood and bark chips from tropical plantation grown trees must be consigned to an approved facility operating under a valid compliance agreement with Plant Protection and Quarantine at the time the chips are imported. The facility must process the chips in a manner that will destroy any plant pests associated with chips. The name of the approved facility must be submitted and approved before importation occurs.

Some species of timber may be subject to regulations under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
