APHIS collects from individuals,
businesses, and state and foreign governments information related
to the importation and quarantine of foreign plant and plant
products entering the United States under the provisions of 7 CFR
319 and 352. The information is used to determine compliance with
the regulations and is necessary for preventing the introduction of
plant pests or entry of unauthorized plant or plant products into
the United States.
0579-0049 is used to report the
activities associated with importing certain commodities into the
United States. Commodities are no longer reported with their own
information collection requests, but in periodic reports submitted
as nonsubstantive changes to 0579-0049. In FY 2020, APHIS added
four new commodities to the list of those authorized for import,
subsequently adding 197 respondents, 4,104 responses, and 8,037
hours of burden to this information collection request.
