Frequently Asked Questions of WIC Participants

Overview

The Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is sponsoring a study about WIC food packages to help better serve WIC participants across the country. Abt Associates Inc. has been hired to conduct the study. Researchers from Abt will be talking to 1,600 women who receive WIC and have recently had a baby. The interview is to learn about infant feeding practices and women’s experience receiving services from WIC. You have been chosen to participate in this study.


What will I have to do?

You will be asked to answer questions about WIC services and breastfeeding during a telephone interview.



When will I have to do it?

We will set up a time that works best for you. We can do the interview in the daytime or evening, on any day of the week.



How long will it take?

The interview will take about 30 minutes.



Where do I have to go to participate?

We will do the interview by telephone. If you prefer, we may be able to do the interview at your local WIC clinic where the interviewer could talk to you in-person.



Is there any risk of losing my WIC benefits if I decide not to participate?

No. You do not have to participate in this study. Your decision will not affect your WIC benefits. .



If I participate, will my answers be kept confidential?

We follow strict rules to protect the privacy of the information you share. All study staff are trained to protect confidentiality and sign a privacy pledge. All information you provide will be kept private, to the extent allowed by law. Your name will not be part of the study results.



Are there any benefits to being part of this study?

The information from this study will be used to help improve WIC services. You will receive a $35 gift card as a thank you for participating.



Can I change my mind later?

You can agree to be in the study now and change your mind later. You will not have to give a reason for why you want to quit. You can also choose not to answer some of the questions.
