Dear Flight Attendant,
The U.S. Congress and the President have directed the FAA Civil Aerospace Medical Institute (CAMI) in Oklahoma City to conduct research concerning fatigue among U. S. flight attendants.
To accomplish this directive, CAMI is seeking 210 volunteers to participate in a field study in which flight attendants report and monitor duty periods, sleep, and activity over the course of a single month of flying using personal digital assistants (PDAs), wrist activity monitors, and pedometers. Volunteers will be paid $400.00 for their participation. [airline name]/[union name] encourages you to consider volunteering by reviewing information posted at this weblink: www.insertname.snapsurvey.com The site explains how the study is conducted, requests information about type of trips you typically fly and how to contact you, and provides a point of contact for further questions. Study personnel will contact directly by telephone fifty flight attendants each month over four months to arrange participation. Study personnel will meet with selected volunteers at their crew base airport to provide all study equipment. All volunteers will receive monthly emails updating them of the status of study data collection.
Sincerely,
[contact name]
