Abstract: The Health Forests Restoration Act enabling legislation authorizes the Secretary of Agriculture to perform accelerated information gathering regarding the development of treatment strategies to protect forests from damaging insects and diseases. The proposed information collection will provide credible, science-based information to forest-health protection managers regarding the public acceptability of alternative treatment strategies for protecting hemlock forests on public forestland in the eastern United States from the exotic insect hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA).
