Shelled Edible Grade Season to Date Utilization Up 3 Percent from Last Year
Peanut Stocks in Commercial Storage Totaled 4.19 Billion Pounds
Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on November 30, 2008 totaled 4.19 billion pounds of equivalent
farmer stock, compared with 3.40 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 3.58 billion pounds of actual
farmer stock.
Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 559 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled
49.3 million pounds.
Shelled peanut stocks totaled 420 million pounds of which 398 million pounds were edible grades and
22.8 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 73.3 million pounds of Virginias and
Valencias, 295 million pounds of Runners, and 28.9 million pounds of Spanish.
November millings totaled 373 million pounds. Millings by type were 67.8 million pounds of Virginias and
Valencias, 290 million pounds of Runners, and 15.0 million pounds of Spanish.
Commercial processors utilized 144 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during November.
Utilization by type was 87.7 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 24.0 million pounds for peanut candy,
and 32.0 million pounds for snack peanuts. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 27.5 million pounds
during the month.
Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 4.90 million
pounds of peanut butter and 25,920 pounds of roasted peanuts during November.
Stocks of treated seed on hand November 30, 2008 totaled 357,000 pounds, compared with 387,000 pounds on
October 31, 2008. Of the November total, 257,000 pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 81,000 pounds were
Runners, and 19,000 pounds were Spanish. October stocks of treated seed included 289,000 pounds of Virginias
and Valencias, 79,000 pounds of Runners, and 19,000 pounds of Spanish.
Stocks estimates refer to November 30, 2008. All other data are for the month of November.
