Grain Stocks: Final Estimates by States, 2003-2008, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural
Statistics Board, National Agricultural Statistics Service, Statistical Bulletin No. 1013.
Introduction: This bulletin presents final estimates including revisions made by the Agricultural
Statistics Board (ASB) for the years 2003 through 2008. On-farm and off-farm inventory data were
published during calendar years 2003-2008 in periodic ASB reports. Data included in this
publication provide a historic record and a benchmark for current estimates.
Procedures: Stocks revisions were made after evaluating production revisions made by the ASB
(See Statistical Bulletin 1010). The ASB evaluated production, beginning stocks, recorded
disappearance, and ending stocks to ensure that all estimates were reasonable when compared with
current and historic totals. The 2003-2008 estimates shown herein are considered final and will not
be revised again.
Historic Estimates: Final estimates of Grain Stocks in earlier years are available in Statistical
Bulletins No. 983 for 1998-2003, No. 948 for 1993-1998, No. 897 for 1988-1993, No. 794 for
1982-1987, No. 707 for 1978-1983, No. 649 for 1974-1979, No. 592 for 1969-1975, No. 508 for
1964-1970, No. 395 for 1959-1965, No. 304 for 1954-1960, and No. 203 for 1949-1955. Statistical
Bulletin No. 203 also presents U. S. estimates back to October 1, 1935.
