SUBJECT : Request for Approval of the Application Package for Grants under
the Student Support Services Program, CFDA Number 84.042A

The application package used to award grants under the Student Support Services (SSS) Program expired on July 31, 2007. It was decided by OPE/HEP, in consultation with RIMS; to seek approval of the SSS Program application closer to the time of the actual grant competition originally scheduled to begin in the fall of 2008. In August 2008, the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 was signed into law and additional changes to the SSS program and the application package were required. This package includes changes mandated by the new law as well as policy revisions necessary to manage the upcoming competition. We are requesting a reinstatement, with changes, to the previously approved application package.
The collection is needed to request applications from eligible applicants under the upcoming Fiscal Year 2010 SSS competition. The attached Form OMB 83-I and supporting documents are being submitted as required.
