Subject: VAW Workshop Planning

<
>

TO: Carrie, Karen, Mary, Shannan and Michele

FROM: Bernie

As planned we will have our VAW Workshop Planning Meeting tomorrow at 11 AM in room 7345.  We'll call Michele at that time.  Attached from Carrie is a suggested model abstract for a recently concluded vaw study.  The plan would be to compile all research and evaluation projects that have ended in the past two years on abstracts like this one and have the multiagency collection of abstracts available prior to the one day workshop at the end of August.  My guess is that presenters might not present on every abstract in our collection as we would be highlighting only the most significant studies.

In our January 18th meeting we began to discuss the workshop format and the idea of organizing the day of presentations by VAW topic areas - IPV, sexual violence, trafficking, batterers, children and IPV, etc.  If we use this organizing approach perhaps the content areas of the abstracts received would provide the guidance.  We also talked about Michele doing a lunch presentation (we would each pay for our own lunch but it would be delivered to us) on the upcoming vaw survey that NCIPC is now piloting.

Tomorrow we should identify the specific day (or two) for our end of August workshop, discuss the format more including ways to incorporate practitioner needs that suggest future research, and identify other interested agencies (I spoke with Jerry Silverman and he'd be interested and especially if one of the categories is children and DV).   Perhaps the date of the workshop can be raised with our larger group - the Federal  Network Addressing VAW since they are conferencing just before our 11 AM meeting.  When we have pinpointed a day (with an alternate) I'll move to reserve a room here and initiate contact with our logistics contractor.
