Under the Natural Gas Act (NGA) (Public Law 75 688) (15 U.S.C. 717-717w) a natural gas company must obtain Commission authorization to engage in the transportation, sale or exchange of natural gas in interstate commerce. [Those reporting requirements are covered separately by FERC-537, OMB Control No. 1902 0060, not a subject of this clearance request.] FERC is also empowered to oversee continuity of service in the transportation of natural gas in interstate commerce. The information collected under FERC-576 notifies FERC in a timely manner of any interruption to service or damages to the regulated energy infrastructure that could result in a possible hazard to public health or safety.
The number of respondents, responses, and corresponding total burden hours have been revised, based on the actual number of submittals. (The reporting requirements have not changed.)
On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that the collection of information encompassed by this request complies with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR 1320.8(b)(3).
The following is a summary of the topics, regarding the proposed collection of information, that the certification covers:
(i) Why the information is being collected;
(ii) Use of information;
(iii) Burden estimate;
(iv) Nature of response (voluntary, required for a benefit, or mandatory);
(v) Nature and extent of confidentiality; and
(vi) Need to display currently valid OMB control number;
If you are unable to certify compliance with any of these provisions, identify the item by leaving the box unchecked and explain the reason in the Supporting Statement.
