The information collected will be used by the Social Security Administration to verify identity and to provide replacement copies of Forms SSA-1099/SSA 1042S needed to prepare Federal tax returns. This Internet option to request a replacement SSA-1099/SSA-1042S will eliminate the need for a phone call to the national 800 number or a visit to a local field office. The respondents are beneficiaries who are requesting a replacement SSA-1099/SSA-1042S.
When we last cleared this information collection in 2006, the burden hours were 21,000. However, we are currently reporting a burden of 22,743 hours. This change stems from a significant increase in the usage of SSAÂs online services.
