The William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program General Forbearance Request serves as the means by which a Direct Loan borrower who is temporarily unable to make loan payments due to a financial hardship requests a forbearance on his or her loans. A forbearance is a temporary cessation of payments or a temporary reduction in the amount of a borrower's monthly loan payment.
