INTRO As I mentioned before, the National Inmate Survey is a research study being done by the Bureau of Justice Statistics and RTI International, a not-for-profit research organization in North Carolina. The purpose of this research project is to find out the best way to collect data on sexual assault in jails and prisons.
This interview will take about 30 minutes. Your name will never be connected with the information you provide in this interview. We will treat everything you say as private and confidential. We will not share any information you provide with anyone outside or at the facility or anyone who is not working on the project.

90% of the respondents will be randomly routed to answer questions D6-G26, which are about consensual and non-consensual sex in the facility. Time permitting (i.e., if the respondent reaches the end of these questions before 30 minutes is up), they will then asked some of the subsequent questions about alcohol use, drug use, alcohol and drug treatment, and their behavior within the facility.
