The Mining Safety and Health Administration injury data reported 227 knee injuries in underground coal mine workers in 2007. Typically, mine workers use kneepads to better distribute pressures at the knee. The effectiveness of the these kneepads is to be investigated by NIOSH. The postures used by low-seam mine workers and their frequency were unknown and to be determined before the larger experimental study was done. The aim of this study was to determine the postures predominantly used by each job type of low-seam mine workers.
