The Federal Reserve System and other government agencies would use the survey to monitor activity in the foreign exchange and derivatives markets. The survey is part of a data collection effort conducted by over 50 other central banks and monetary authorities.
The FR 3036 survey is conducted only once every three years and would be reinstated for the latest survey. The total burden has decreased since the last survey due to a decrease in the number of respondents. However, the hourly estimate for the turnover survey did increase due to (1) additional data items needed for monitoring growth in the credit derivative market and (2)additional currencies on the tables for foreign exchange and interest rate derivatives.
