In support of 30 CFR Parts sections
48, 50, & 75 to improve the emergency evacuation and rescue in
underground coal mines, these regulations include requirements for
immediate accident notification applicable to all mines. In
addition, they contain reporting and record keeping requirements
for new and expanded training, including evacuation drills;
self-contained self-rescuer (SCSR) storage, training, and use; and
the installation and maintenance of lifelines in underground coal
mines.
Adjustments in this submission
are a result of merging OMB 1219-0044 into this ICR package and a
decrease in the number of respondents (underground coal mines) from
873 to 622. The small incremental reporting burden for Part 50 was
removed because it is included in the OMB 1219-0007 package. The
hour burden certification of each SCSR examination under §
75.1714-3(e) was decreased significantly from 0.5 hours to 0.0025
hours which reflects a more accurate estimate of the time to
certify the exam record. The cost to produce copies of the
escapeway maps required by § 75.1505 was added to the current ICR
package and resulted in a net annual cost increase of $
58,777.
