NES Teacher Interview Protocol

Interview Script: Good day! My name is (insert name here) and I will be asking you some questions about your experiences with the NASA Explorer Schools. As you know, we are conducting a pilot of the NASA Explorer Schools and will use the information you provide when we implement the program on a larger scale. We are not interviewing you to judge or grade you on how well you implement the content provided through NES, but want your honest feedback on the “core functionality” of the program so we can improve the program. We will ask you for your feedback in four areas: 1) NASA content modules, 2) Electronic Professional Development, 3) in-classroom media, 4) NES web interface

NASA Content Modules

During the past few months, as part of the NASA Explorer Schools, you have likely used one or more NASA content modules in your classroom. I will read a list of content modules, please indicate which modules you have used.

  • Earth Climate Course

  • LunarNautics

  • Engineering Design Challenge: Plant Growth Chamber

  • Smart Skies

  • My NASA Data

  • Rocket Guide

  • Black Hole Math

  • Cooling with Sunshades

How did you use the module(s) in your classroom?

What was your experience using the module(s) in your classroom?

Were your students interested in the content of the modules? Were they engaged?

Is there any kind of additional support that would have helped you with implementing the module(s) in your classroom which you did not have?

Please give us suggestions as how we can improve the content modules?

Electronic Professional Development

During the past few months, as part of the NASA Explorer Schools, you have likely used the Electronic Professional Development to learn more about the NASA content modules and how to use them in your classroom. NES has provided three types of Electronic Professional Development: 1) Instructor Lead, 2) Self-Guided, 3) Facilitated and Self-guided.

Which type(s) of professional development did you use, if any?

If you used more than one type of professional development, do you prefer a particular type over the others?

If so, why was the type you preferred better than the others?

Please give us suggestions as how we can improve the Electronic Professional Development?

In-classroom media

During the past few months, as part of the NASA Explorer Schools, you have likely used one or more in-classroom media experience in your classroom. Have you used any in-classroom media experiences in your classroom? And, if so, which ones?

What was your experience using the in-classroom media experience in your classroom?

Were your students interested in the content of the media? Were they engaged?

Is there any kind of additional support that would have helped you with implementing the in-classroom media in your classroom which you did not have?

Please give us suggestions as how we can improve the In-classroom media?

NES web interface

During the past few months, as part of the NASA Explorer Schools, you have used the NES web interface to access the NASA content modules and in-classroom media.

In your opinion, was the NES web interface easy to navigate?

When using the NES web interface, were you able to find what you were looking for?

Please give us suggestions as how we can improve the NES web interface?
