The survey is being conducted in response to the 2007 DoD Mental Health Task Force report, which found that Âthe military system does not have enough fiscal or personnel resources to adequately support the psychological health of service members and their families in peace and during conflict. The proposed survey was designed in response to those findings; its twin goals are to determine the key factors in military mental health providers decisions to join as well their decisions to leave military service, and to identify incentives that might have encouraged them to extend their service. These findings will inform the development of policy recommendations by FHP&R that would improve the retention of active duty psychologists and psychiatrists.
