NHTSA has issued a regulation
requiring manufacturers to install advanced air bags that reduce
the likelihood of injury or fatality in a crash. A three-stage
phase-in of mandatory advanced air bags was implemented.
There is an 82 hour increase
adjustment to Item 13 on the OMB form 83-I. The reason for this
increase is explained as follows. At present, OMB Clearance
2127-0599 gives NHTSA approval to collect 1,260 burden hours a year
from industry, or 61 hours from each of 22 manufacturers. However,
there was an increase in the number of manufacturers from 21 to 22
due to the separation of Daimler-Chrysler into: Chrysler
Corporation and Daimler AG. This resulted in a 61 hour increase
from the current OMB inventory of 1,260 burden hours a year
