The proposed study provides
information to aid in identifying and evaluating alternatives for
future management of an Oversand Vehicle (OSV) Zone and backcountry
areas at Assateague Island National Seashore. The purpose is to
provide park managers with information about the types and
characteristics of visitors to the OSV zone and adjacent
backcountry areas, attributes of the OSV zone important to the
quality of visitor experience, and visitor attitudes regarding OSV
management and resource protection practices. This information will
inform an update of the parks 1982 General Management Plan. The
study includes two components: a survey of 2009 OSV permit holders
and a survey of 2009 backcountry permit holders.

Input from recreational
visitors to Assateague Island National Seashore is being requested
through voluntary surveys. This input will inform the park's
revision of its 1982 General Management Plan. Without the surveys,
planning would have to occur without input from a representative
sample of park visitors.
