  1. What is the total population of the United States?

  1. A. You would like to know what percentage of the population is living in poverty in the US. How would you find this information?
    B. How would you find this information for your own state?



  1. You’d like to know what the average household income is for people living in Springfield, Ohio.



  1. You’d like to know how many people have bachelor’s degrees in Springfield, Ohio.



  1. You are a city planner in Springfield, Ohio and you would like to know how many homes are vacant in Springfield. How would you find this information?



  1. You would like to find out information on 2011 population numbers but you can’t find it anywhere on the site…. You know it should be there because you found the same information for the 2010 numbers. What would you do?



  1. You’ve just got a new job and will be moving to Arlington, VA. You would like to compare how much it would cost to rent an apartment versus what it would cost to purchase a place in the area.



  1. A. (For novice and intermediate users) You are interested in knowing the number of people who graduated from college for all counties within Florida.

B. (For an extractor --high expert-- user): You’d like to know how many African Americans are living in census tracts within Rockville, Maryland.



  1. For an extractor (high expert) user: You are working on a research project and need to have the population counts for all blocks in the country. What would you do?







Note to OMB: If there is time within the hour, we will ask a subset of the tasks below. We will randomly choose the tasks we ask them to do from the list below. We expect, depending on the flow of the interview, that we might be able to do an extra 2 or 3 tasks from the list below.
