Recent epidemiologic studies suggest vehicle-related emissions may be linked to many adverse health effects. Commuters are a potentially susceptible, yet poorly characterized sub-population. A more complete understanding of in-vehicle exposures for commuters, especially those with asthma, is necessary as commuting durations and roadway congestion have steadily increased in the US during the last 20 years. NCEH will conduct a study to characterize in-vehicle exposures to traffic-related air pollutants among commuters, with and without asthma, and any health impacts these exposures may have on the commuter.
