Who must comply?

Owners and operators of certain vessels engaged on international voyages.

What is this collection about?

The Coast Guard (CG) collects, stores, and analyzes data transmitted by Long Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) equipment to enhance maritime domain awareness (MDA). Awareness and threat knowledge are critical for securing the maritime domain and the key to preventing adverse events. Domain awareness enables the early identification of potential threats and enhances appropriate responses, including interdiction at an optimal distance with capable prevention forces.

Where do I find the requirements for this information?

Title 33 CFR Part 169, Subpart C, is available at—http://ecfr.gpoaccess.gov, select TITLE 33—NAVIGATION AND NAVIGABLE WATERS, and follow it to Subpart C of Part 169.

When must information be submitted to the Coast Guard?

The information must be submitted to the CG every 6 hours when a vessel is engaged on an international voyage.

How is the information submitted?

The information is automatically transmitted electronically using LRIT equipment.

What happens when complete information is received?

The CG will review the information for completeness. Only if there is a problem with the information transmitted will the CG contact the vessel.
